Who is Passage Film?


Kent Moorhead – Producer/Director; writer.

Kent Moorhead attended New York University Graduate Film and TV Institute and got his MFA in 1981. He received further training as a producer at the American Film Institute in 1991. He has worked as a producer/director in both drama and documentary although in the last ten years he has focused on documentary. He also works as a cameraman and as an editor; teaches documentary filmmaking in Stockholm; and writes for the Swedish film magazine Monitor. He has more than two hundred film credits in a wide range of roles and types of production. For more information, keep reading below.

Pia Moorhead Törnberg – Producer/Director; writer.

Pia Moorhead Törnberg worked as a investigative journalist in Sweden at SVT, the "Swedish BBC" both as a journalist and as an editor, for almost 20 years. After that she taught investigative journalism at Stockholm university and has given a large number of workshops in newsrooms. Her specialty is investigative journalism in general and interviewing in particular. She has worked for Grävande Journalister, the "Swedish IRE", to provide advice to investigative journalists.


Passage Film

Passage Film, Inc. is a US corporation operating from Oxford, Mississippi. In Sweden it is the film company Passfilm AB. Passage Film used to be Forever Young Productions, LLC, which began in 1997. In 2011, it changed its name and corporate structure. Going back to 1997 Forever Young/Passage Film has been involved in over a hundred productions and has had several dozen clients. Today, Passage Film is Kent Moorhead and Pia Moorhead Törnberg. They have been collaborating on documentary productions for over 16 years now. In 2005 their feature documentary, The Most Segregated Hour, won the Best Documentary Award at the Crossroads Film Festival in Jackson, Mississippi. Their most recent film is Rather Die Free Than Live A Slave, about the United States Colored Troops in the Civil War; the film is also about black women who joined the Union cause in a variety of roles. Rather Die Free premiered at the Crossroads Film Festival and has been used in events by the National Park Service. Passage Film, Inc. is currently developing several documentaries, including Me and My Kind: James Meredith's War, about James Meredith and his fight against white supremacy; The Elephant in the Room, about racism and southern symbols such as the rebel flag; and a long version of Rather Die Free Than Live A Slave which includes the development of African American civil society during and after the Civil War. There is also an educational project in support of this film, undertaken in cooperation with St. Andrew's Episcopal School, a multi-racial private school in Jackson, Mississippi.

Camera training

Kent Moorhead trained at NYU Film School under master Czech cameraman, Bedrich Batka. Moorhead developed his craft while working as assistant camera for some great cinematographers: Robert Richardson, ASC (3 Academy Awards); French cameraman Pierre-William Glenn; Steven Fierberg, ASC (Showtime's The Affair); John Thomas (HBO's Sex and the City).
